How to keep going when the buzz wears off

Issue #24 – Wednesday, April 8, 2026

### Motivation is a spike, not a strategy

Most people judge themselves by their
best, most hyped‑up days.

They wait for a big burst of energy,
then try to do everything at once.

When that fades (because it always
does), they think something is wrong
with them.

Nothing’s wrong.

Motivation is supposed to spike and
dip. Your system just has to work
without depending on the spike.

### Build around rhythm, not mood

Instead of asking,
“Do I feel like it today?”

Decide in advance,
“What *rhythm* can I
actually sustain most weeks?”

This might mean:

– 2–3 emails per week,
– One planning block and one
writing block,
– One small task on “low‑energy”
days (like collecting ideas).

You’re not chasing perfect streaks.

You’re building a steady drumbeat
that keeps moving, even when your
mood is average.

### Make it easier to start than to skip

On low‑energy days, the hardest
part is starting.

So shrink the “start line”:

– Instead of “write an email,”
the job is “open the doc and
write one messy paragraph.”
– Instead of “plan a whole
month,” the job is “brain‑dump
five topic ideas.”

If you do the tiny version,
you’ve already won.

Most of the time, once you’re
moving, you’ll do a bit more.

### One small move for this week

Here’s your assignment:

1) Decide on a **bare‑minimum
rhythm** you can keep for the
next month
(for example: 2 emails per
week).

2) For each send, define a
tiny “start action”:
– Open doc + write 3 bullets.
– Turn one bullet into a
short paragraph.

3) On the days you’re scheduled
to show up, promise yourself
you’ll at least do the start
action — even if you don’t
feel like doing anything else.

You’re training your system to
carry you when motivation is
quiet.

### What’s coming next

In the next issue, we’ll talk
about how to **keep your ideas
flowing** so you aren’t staring
at a blank screen every time
your writing window opens.
