### Your story is part of your leverage
In the online income world, a lot of people try to
sound like everyone else.
Same phrases.
Same promises.
Same “hustle” voice.
The problem is, if you sound like everyone else, you
blend into the noise.
Your background—your age, your work history, even
the strange hobbies or training you’ve had—is not a
distraction. It’s part of your leverage.
### Why *your* background matters (to them)
On the surface, your reader cares about their own
situation: their bills, time, and future.
So why does your story matter at all?
Because it quietly answers questions they won’t
always say out loud:
– “Does this person understand what real life feels like?”
– “Have they actually been through anything hard?”
– “Can I trust their perspective?”
In my case, I’m a GenXer who’s done hard, unglamorous
work and also trained in ninjutsu. That shapes how I
look at online income: more discipline and positioning,
less hype and chaos.
Your details will be different. But the principle is
the same: your past explains why you teach what you
teach, the way you teach it.
### Share your story in small, useful pieces
You don’t need a dramatic “origin story” email. It’s
more powerful to weave tiny pieces of your real life
into what you’re already teaching.
You can do that with lines like:
– “Back when I was working in ______, I noticed…”
– “One lesson I learned the hard way was…”
– “Watching the online space for years, I’ve seen…”
Then always tie it back to the reader:
– What this taught you about using energy
– How it changed the way you handle risk
– Why you approach traffic, offers, or follow‑up
the way you do now
Your story is the context that makes your advice feel
earned instead of copied.
### One small move for this week
Here’s your assignment:
1) Jot down 3 short moments from your own life that
shaped how you think about work or money.
Examples:
– A job that pushed you to your limit.
– A time you fell for a hypey offer.
– A lesson from a mentor, teacher, or training.
2) For each moment, write one line:
“Here’s what that taught me about how to approach
online income.”
3) In your next email, post, or piece of content,
drop in just one of those moments as a 1–3 sentence
story, then connect it to the point you’re making.
You’re not telling your story to make yourself the
hero. You’re using your real experience to give your
reader a reason to trust the path you’re laying out.
### What’s coming next
In the next issue, we’ll bring this all together and
look at how to keep your system **light but durable**—
so you can maintain a calm, strategic approach around
real life, work, and everything else that doesn’t
pause just because you started an online project.
