How to speak more directly without going nuts

Issue #33 – Friday, April 24, 2026

### Not everyone on your list is the same

When you send one email to
everyone, every time, it’s
easy for your message to feel
a bit generic.

Some people are brand‑new.
Some have been reading you
for months.
Some have already bought.

They don’t all need the exact
same thing from you right now.

That’s where simple segments
help.

### Start with just a couple of groups

You don’t need a giant tagging
system.

You can begin with 2–3 basic
groups, like:

– New people vs long‑time
readers.
– Engaged (opens/clicks) vs
quiet.
– Buyers vs not‑yet buyers.

Even light segmentation like
this can help you:

– Welcome new people better.
– Re‑engage the quiet ones.
– Treat buyers like the VIPs
they are.

Small changes, clearer
conversations.

### Adjust the message, not your whole system

You don’t have to write
completely different emails for
every segment.

You can:

– Keep the main lesson the
same,
– But tweak the intro and the
call to action based on who
you’re talking to.

For example:

– New people: more context,
fewer assumptions.
– Long‑time readers: less
backstory, more depth.
– Buyers: more “next step,”
less basic explanation.

Same core idea, slightly tuned
to each group.

### One small move for this week

Here’s your assignment:

1) Choose **one simple way**
to split your list:
– New vs long‑time,
– Engaged vs quiet, or
– Buyers vs not‑yet.

2) For your next send, write
one main email.

3) Then create a small
variation for just one
segment:
– a different opening, or
– a different PS, or
– a slightly different
call to action.

You’re learning to talk a bit
more directly, without turning
this into a full‑time data
job.

### What’s coming next

In the next issue, we’ll look
at how to **treat your email
platform like an ally, not a
maze** — using only a few key
features to support your calm
system instead of overwhelming
yourself with every option.
